A New Year Will Bring a New Location for TVGA Consultants

TVGA Consultants (TVGA) is excited to announce the relocation of their headquarters from Elma, NY to downtown Buffalo in the former Levy, King and White building, located at 620 Main Street.  TVGA will lease the building from Larkin Development Group.  The entire staff of employees that are presently based at the Elma location will make the move, effective January 3rd, 2011.

“TVGA’s decision to move their offices to downtown Buffalo is yet another example of the growing trend of businesses, both local and national, relocating into the urban core,” said Mayor Byron Brown. “Employees and owners alike are looking beyond inexpensive parking and the seclusion of a privately owned suburban facility; instead they are now looking to become part of a unique urban environment – the benefits of which include diverse transportation options and easy access to shopping, dining out and entertainment.  I welcome TVGA to our growing downtown community.”

“All of TVGA’s staff, principals and managers are enthusiastic about the move,” explained Edward M. Schiller, PE, President of TVGA.  “It will be easier to interface with many of our clients, who are downtown.  Every employee believes that being part of downtown redevelopment is important to the growth of Western New York.  TVGA was founded in 1917 and will be responsible for the redevelopment of the former Levy, King and White building, built circa 1919, thus tying together 2 entities from Buffalo’s proud history.”

The Firm will not be the only winner, according to the staff.  Angela Keppel, a Planner with TVGA, sees the move as an incredible opportunity to add economic spin-off for the businesses located within the vicinity.  “As a proud Buffalonian, and an urban planner, I see bringing economic activity back to the downtown core as an exciting opportunity for TVGA to have a role in the preservation and growth of Buffalo.”

Howard Zemsky, President of Larkin Development Group says “For the past several years we have been looking for the ideal single tenant who could utilize the entire building.  TVGA is a perfect fit for the building and for downtown Buffalo.  They are a professional services firm with a distinguished history and a bright future. Our team was struck by the enthusiasm of the partners and the associates for our community. We are extremely proud to have an association with TVGA.”

TVGA Consultants Provides Assistance to Communities and Homeowners

Effected by New FEMA Flood Maps

TVGA Consultants (TVGA) has been contacted by homeowners and municipal officials to assist with appeals of the recently revised FEMA Flood Maps.  Douglas R. Hager, PLS, Principal of TVGA, states “our engineering, land surveying and mapping departments have been actively working with local communities to appeal the newly mapped flood zones, utilizing existing and new aerial photography, along with ground observations.  The new maps are adding a costly expense to the residents of Western New York, whose homes were not previously mapped in a flood plain.”

When asked what a homeowner can do to verify that they are correctly classified in a flood plain, TVGA’s Project Manager, Ellen Nicoloff, offers a flood elevation certification.  “This involves sending a land surveyor out to get elevations of points on and around the structure’s foundation.  If the actual elevation is higher than the new, DFIRM flood elevation, the property owner may appeal to have the property removed from the flood-prone area.”

There are strict guidelines and an approaching deadline for communities to file an appeal.  FEMA is hosting three public meetings on March 30th, 31st and April 1st, where communities can learn more about the new maps.
