TVGA was awarded the design, construction inspection and support for the expansion of the Syracuse Interconnect Expansion Project in Syracuse, New York. This $5M Locally-Administered Federal Aid project involves the evaluation of the current centrally-controlled traffic signal control system, selection of a replacement control system, replacement of the traffic signal hardware at approximately 40 traffic signal intersections, selection and the design of a communications system to integrate with and complement the existing fiber optic communications system. Additionally, the system will accommodate CCTV cameras and consider other ITS facilities such as Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) and Highway Advisory Radio (HAR). The existing centrally-controlled system will be incorporated into the new control system increasing the total number of signals under control to 185. The replacement control system will be traffic responsive with signal pre-emption and emergency route management. In agreement with the Regional ITS Architecture, the system will facilitate the opportunity for shared CCTV feeds and up-to-date traffic count information with area stakeholders. The construction phase will result in a turn-key system ready for City staff operation. Training for City staff will be provided for system operation and maintenance.
