TVGA was selected to perform preliminary design studies, preparation of contract documents, bidding administration, construction support services, and construction inspection for the total rehabilitation of the South Park Avenue Lift Bridge over Buffalo River.  This rehabilitation will extend the bridge’s service life at least 20 years, while maintaining navigation on the Buffalo River.  Key elements of the rehabilitation design included topographic and hydrographic survey of all site and river features including site utilities; field inspection of bridge structures, operating machinery, counterweight cables, and testing of all electrical power/control circuits and equipment; Level I load rating and fatigue analysis; structural rehabilitation; rehabilitation design of all drive gearing and machinery components; electrical/control systems rehabilitation design including replacement of DC drive system with VFD’s and a PLC-based control system; backup power generator design and specification; and design of a new Ancillary Electrical Building including HVAC, power distribution and lighting.
