TVGA was retained by the Village of Youngstown to provide preliminary and final design services for this grant funded bulkhead and waterfront park remediation project.
TVGA completed the design of a new 200-foot long bulkhead/break wall, seaside promenade, sidewalk, lighting, parking facilities and amenities for the overhaul of the South Waterfront Park along the Niagara River shoreline in the Village of Youngstown, New York. Monetary and permitting constraints necessitated the development and analysis of unique alternatives for the rehabilitation of the existing bulkhead. The preferred alternative that was selected for the bulkhead wall incorporated the innovative use of pre-cast concrete box beams that are typically used for bridge superstructures. The box beams and new sidewalk weigh less than the existing wall that was replaced, and have a 50 year design life, making this alternative an economical choice that would meet the design needs of the project.
Also completed under this project were drainage improvements in the park and along the adjacent roadway, the addition of aesthetic park lights, new parking, curbing, replacement of sidewalks, and rehabilitation of the existing public access boat slip located in the park. |
