FIFTH WARD SANITARY SEWER REPLACEMENT PROJECT |

KEY PROJECT COMPONENTS: |
This Project included the replacement/rehabilitation of the sanitary sewers in the Fifth Ward of the City of Glens Falls, which encompasses Bush, State, Faxon, East Tremont and Water Streets. The sanitary collection system in this area had been experiencing problems for some time, most notably with sewer overflows near the corner of State and Faxon Streets causing considerable concern among the local residents. The Project Area sewers collect sanitary flow from the aforementioned neighborhood in addition to receiving sanitary flow from the Thornberry Pump Station via forcmain delivery at the corner of Bush and State Streets. The project area gravity sanitary flow is delivered to the Water Street Pump Station adjacent to the Feeder Canal. The sanitary sewers in the project area were in extremely poor condition, and were receiving considerable amounts of inflow and infiltration (I/I), which greatly lessened the capacity of the sanitary sewers in the area. The majority of the pipe segments consisted of varying severity of broken and offset joints, cracks, dips and root intrusion. There were also flow restriction problems from a stuck cleaner hose and instances of decreasing pipe size. Much of the Project Area Sanitary Sewer was also plagued by insufficient slope to maintain a scour velocity of at least 2 feet/second. Many of the sewer manholes were also severely deteriorated and required either relining or replacement. |
