"Grider Street is the front door of Erie County Medical Center and gives our patients a first impression of our campus. Over the years, Grider Street has been the victim of urban decay, and the Grider Street Project is the beginning of its revival. In the coming year, it is the intention of ECMC and the neighbors of Grider Street to build upon this new streetscape by developing the Grider corridor to bring in new businesses and housing for the community. It truly will be the catalyst for reforming the entire neighborhood." - Tom Quatroche, ECMC Senior VP of Marketing and Planning
TVGA was awarded the Phase I-VI reconstruction design of approximately 0.7 miles of urban arterial in the City of Buffalo, NY. This Locally Administered Federal Aid Project required close coordination among the City of Buffalo, the New York State Department of Transportation, the Erie County Medical Center, and the Federal Highway Administration. Furthermore, the scope and nature of this project dictated that the public and business owners be involved throughout the duration of the project.
This project involved development of a recommended alternative that meets the traffic capacity and safety needs of the corridor while enhancing the aesthetic quality of the community. Specific responsibilities include traffic capacity analyses, traffic signal design and coordination, accident analysis and mitigation, waterline replacement design, grading and drainage. TVGA’s scope included a design report, development of contract plans for roadway reconstruction, as well as construction support and inspection.
TVGA provided assistance to the City with public coordination and participation, a very crucial element of the project. TVGA developed a Resident Advisory Committee, comprised of community leaders, merchants and residents of the project area. TVGA met with this committee ten times, over the course of the project. Residents and committee members were also invited to bi-weekly progress meetings and the on-site field office maintained an open door policy.
