FIVE POINTS LANDFILL ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING
Little Valley, NY
KEY PROJECT COMPONENTS: • Development and Management of Historical Database • Review and Evaluation of Data • Quarterly Report Preparation • Annual Report Preparation
The Five Points Landfill (FPL) is an inactive municipal solid waste landfill located in the Town of Mansfield, NY. The landfill consists of an upper and a lower cell, which were operated by the Cattaraugus County Department of Public Works from 1974 to 1988. Water quality monitoring has been performed at the FPL since 1990. The permanent monitoring network for the FPL includes 12 sample locations from which groundwater and leachate samples are collected. The samples are chemically analyzed at an appropriately certified analytical laboratory, and a third-party data validator reviews the analytical results.
TVGA’s work includes the development of a historical database of the monitoring results, importation of the validated results into the facility’s historical database, and evaluation of the results with respect to water quality standards and potential trends. TVGA prepares quarterly and annual reports that describe the sampling methodologies, analytical results, contraventions of standards, concentration trends, and any noteworthy observations. The reports are submitted to the NY State Department of Environmental Conservation.
