COLVIN BOULEVARD AND BRIGHTON ROAD INTERSECTION
Tonawanda, NY
KEY PROJECT COMPONENTS: • Coordinate and Optimize Signal Timings and Progression Through the Arterial • Capacity Analysis • Signal Design • Minimize Delays and Emissions in Support of the CMAQ Funding • Accident Analyses • Detailed Design of Intersection Improvements • Evaluation of Signal Alternatives • Intersection Realignment
TVGA has been retained by the Erie County Department of Public Works (ECDPW) to design and coordinate seven signalized intersections along Colvin Boulevard and Brighton Road in the Town of Tonawanda, NY.
The existing corridor consists of an obsolete signal system and inefficient signal timings resulting in poor progression through the arterial. One such intersection may require realignment due to a skewed approach, while another may require evaluation of a roundabout due to safety hazards and six legs being operated under one signal controller. The latter will also require realignment to minimize the number of conflict points.
TVGA is responsible for the coordination and optimization of the signal system in order to improve the progression through the arterial. Since the project is funded through a CMAQ funding source, minimizing delays and emissions are key components of this project. Detailed design of the signal system and improvements at the intersection approaches are also a part of this project. A detailed accident analysis will be conducted for each intersection to identify safety constraints, and recommendations will be made to mitigate the same.
