TVGA traces its origin to the time of WW I (1917) when the firm of Cudall, Powell & Mosher was organized for the practice of engineering in the City of
Buffalo
. In 1922, Cudall, Powell & Mosher incorporated under the name of Industrial Planning Corporation. The firm of Cherry, Cushing & Preble was founded as successors and continued under this name from 1940 through 1959 when, following the death of Mr. Cushing, it was known as Cherry & Preble. In 1962, Lloyd L. Conable, Jr. and Elmer B. Sampson joined the firm with the name changed to Cherry, Preble, Conable & Sampson. The offices then relocated from downtown
Buffalo
to the Village of Orchard Park. In 1967 following the death of Mr. Cherry and retirement of Mr. Preble; Edward E. Van Kuren, L.S.; Gerald T. Gertis, L.S. and James A. Huffcut, P.E./L.S. joined the firm and renamed it Conable, Sampson, Van Kuren, Huffcut & Gertis.
The Lanse,
Pennsylvania
based firm of Butler Engineering was acquired in 1969 to expand the mapping and photogrammetric operations. After retirements of Mr. Sampson (1972), resignation of Mr. Huffcut (1973) and resignation of Mr. Conable (1975), the firm accepted Bertram F. Tallamy, P.E. and David J. Theilman, P.E. as Partners in January, 1976. The firm was renamed Tallamy, Van Kuren, Gertis & Theilman. At that time, the Company had two working offices:
Lanse
,
Pennsylvania
and
Orchard Park
,
New York
with approximately 35 personnel. In January of 1980, the firm purchased the surveying practice of Roy J. Straley, L.S. located in downtown
Buffalo
,
New York
and has continued operation at that location. The surveying firms of Griffith and Associates in
Ashville
,
North Carolina
and Daniel Wilson & Associates,
Camden
,
South Carolina
were acquired and active during 1980-1982.
In July, 1985; the firm then known as Tallamy, Van Kuren, Gertis & Associates acquired the two
Tampa Bay
,
Florida
area firms known as Crumley & Associates of New Port Richey and Florida Land Consultants of Brandon. The survey firm of Mooney Associates of Florida was obtained in April, 1987.
As the firm continued to grow in 1989, additional office space was leased in
Orchard
Park
and the growing structural and highway engineering departments were relocated.
In 1993, the Partnership form of business was transferred to the Professional Corporation of TVGA Engineering, Surveying, P.C., and in 1994, the Buffalo Office was closed to consolidate the surveying operations in anticipation of construction of new headquarters.
As the company continued to grow and additional office space was needed, the firm built a new Corporate Office Facility in
Elma
,
New York
. Both
Orchard
Park
offices were relocated to this 18,000 square foot facility in November, 1995.
In 2002, the firm changed its name from TVGA Engineering, Surveying, PC to TVGA Consultants in an effort to enhance our corporate image in the industry. A new logo for the firm was also adopted at this time.
TVGA is proud to employ a highly skilled and diverse staff of civil, transportation, traffic and environmental engineers; scientists; GIS specialists; photogrammetrists; and land surveyors from four locations throughout
