Program: Smaller Learning Communities

Eligibility: Local Education Agencies (LEAs) To be considered for funding, LEAs must identify the eligible high school(s) and the number of students enrolled in each school. A large high school is defined as one having grades 11 and 12, with 1,000 or more students enrolled in grades 9 and above.

Purpose: To support activities that improve student academic achievement, by including structures such as freshman academies, multi-grade academies organized around career interests or other themes. Approximately 40 awards with a maximum of $1,250,000-$14,000,000 for projects lasting up to 60 months will be granted.

Eligibility: NYS Municipalities, Authorities, and Non-Profit Corporations. Projects must be sponsored by a municipality, state agency, or state authority
Match: 20% of project total may be in-kind
Purpose: TEP is a federal reimbursement program under the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act (SAFETEA). The program enables funding for transportation projects of cultural, aesthetic, historic and environmental significance. Eligible projects must fall into one or more of twelve Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) categories. Requests ranging from $200,000 to $2.5 million will be accepted for consideration.

Program: Community Development Block Grant Program

Eligibility: Cities, Towns and Villages having a population under 50,000.

Purpose: To develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment and expanding economic opportunities, principally for persons of low and moderate income. Projects relating to housing, public facilities, micro-enterprise may request up to $400,000. Public Infrastructure (water/sewer only) may request up to $600,000.

Eligibility: Agencies incorporated under the NYS not-for-profit corporation law that have been serving their communities for at least one year.
Match: 50% for most projects
Purpose: To provide financial resources and technical assistance to strengthen the economic vitality of the State's traditional Main Streets and neighborhoods. The "brick and mortar" program provides funding for building renovations, facade and streetscape improvements and, in limited cases, capital funding for projects intended to anchor downtown districts. Minimum request is $50,000.

Purpose: To address environmental or related human health problems in the community and to provide education to residents. Grants ranging from $2,5000 to $50,000 will be awarded to local community organziations in neighborhoods historically overburdened by a higher density of contaminated sites, air pollution, noise, lack of green open space and waterfront access, related public health impacts and reduced quality of life.

Purpose: To create or expand 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) that provide academic enrichment and youth development opportunities outside of regular school hours. The program is primarily for children who attend high-poverty and low-performing schools, as well as literacy and other educational services to their families. This State-administered program is Federally-funded under Title IV Part B of the No Child Left Behind Act.

Program: Skate Park Proposals

Purpose: To promote high-quality public skate parks in low-income areas throughout the United States. The foundation primarily considers skatepark projects that are designed and built by qualified and experienced skate park contractors; include local skaters in the design process; are in low-income areas and/or areas with a high population of “at-risk” youth; and, can demonstrate a strong grassroots commitment to the project. Grants of up to $25,000 are based on a one-time, single-year award. The foundation does not provide sustaining funds or multiyear grants.
